Almonte and District High School Boys’ Team Makes
 Quarter-Finals at OFSAA Curling Championship

Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute Girls’ Team Goes 2-2

(North Bay) - They missed it by an inch.

The Almonte and District High School (ADHS) boys’ curling team fell in the quarter-finals Wednesday to hosting Widdifield Secondary School at the 2016 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Curling Championship in North Bay.

Widdifield beat ADHS 8-6 in a tightly contested game after Skip Derek Bowden missed a double in the final shot of the eighth end.

“It was just by an inch” said Bowden in the aftermath of the loss. “We missed it and they made it. This is a game of inches. Sometimes you miss by an inch. It just happens in this game.”

The ADHS team of Bowden, third Allyn Wark, second Jack McBride, and Lead Karlan Schenher took four out of five games at the tournament, beating Sacred Heart Catholic High School from Newmarket 8-1 to advance to the quarter final.

Meanwhile, the Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute  girls’ team of Lead Tamra Lavoie, Second Caitlin Allen, Third Meghan Courtemanche and Skip Cassie Allen had a great tournament, going 2-2 but failing to make the quarterfinals.

“We had some great chances to win games, but failed to capitalize on opportunities,” said VCI Coach Dan Tremblay. “Still, it was a great learning experience for the girls.”
