School Changes
Building 2020 is the process used to implement all of the school changes that were approved by Upper Canada District School Board trustees at the conclusion of the 2007-08 Boundary 2020 review. Through Building 2020, many families of schools have prepared for school closures, boundary realignments and the transitioning to grades K-6 and grades 7-12 structures.
The timing of Building 2020 is staggered to align with declining school enrolments. For example, the first phase of Building 2020 saw many school changes for our “Team Apollo Schools” which became effective for the 2009-10 school year. This was followed with the second “Team Horizon” phase that will take place for the 2011-12 school year. The third and final phase of “Team Discovery” school changes will become effective for the 2012-13 school year.
Team Discovery; Effective September 2012
The final phase of implementation for Grades K-6/7-12 will take effect in September 2012, with the changes occurring in the Almonte, Athens, Brockville, Carleton Place, North Grenville and Rockland Families of Schools.

Next Steps for Team Discovery Schools
In a similar manner to the process used for the Team Apollo and Team Horizon Schools, “Transition Teams” for each grades 7-12 school have been organized and chaired by the superintendent of schools for each family of schools.
These transition teams bring together representation from parents, students and school staff to exchange ideas and information that will help each school to prepare for September 2012. These are open, public meetings taking place throughout the fall of 2011. The schedule for these transition team meetings is communicated through school bulletins and the Building 2020 website. The school principals from all of the Team Discovery grades K-6 and grades 7-12 schools are also meeting throughout the 2011-12 school year to prepare for September 2012.

The transition to grades 7-12 has been well received by communities across the Upper Canada District School Board. The following link offers some video clips of students and staff from other school areas that have already made this valuable transition.

French Programming
Building 2020 has also overseen the availability of Early French Immersion to students in each family of schools across the Upper Canada District School Board. As a result, the (former) Grade 5 and Grade 7 entry Extended French programs will be completely phased-out by the end of the 2015-16 school year.
