TISS Student Council
Student Council has been responsible for many important events this school year. In addition to running Photo Day, Council teamed with the Yearbook Club to offer an exciting combo deal in which this year's student card and the 2009- 2010 Islander yearbook would be available for the low price of $45. This deal continues only until the end of February, with sales dates being Friday, February 12 and Friday, February 26. After this, cards and yearbooks will continue to be available, but for their regular prices of $20 and $40 respectively. Students who have already purchased a student card may take advantage of the $25 yearbook until the end of February.
The fall saw Council spearhead one of the most successful TISS clothing sales in recent years. A number of TISS Pirates are now proudly displaying their Purple Pride in authentic TISS-gear. Also, Council generously donated $5,000 towards the completion of the track statute that was unveiled in November. With this year's donation, Council has contributed $15,000 towards that project, certainly a symbolic welcoming point to the Home of the Pirates.
On December 18, Council supported the annual Staff-Student Hockey Game at the Memorial Centre, which was witnessed by one of the largest crowds in the history of the game. Once again, the teachers outscored the students. Kudos to Mr. Miles for organizing the student team. Later that afternoon, we held an extremely entertaining Variety Show, featuring some hilarious skits from TISS's many clubs and some great performances from our talented students and staff. Thanks to Cody Crain and Chris Wilson for emceeing and to Brendan Kennedy and Navid Amini for running the technical side of things. It was an excellent way to usher in the holiday season.
Going forward, Student Council is planning its contribution to commemorate the 50th anniversary of TISS this May and are busy at work crafting the school's new Character pledge.
Students interested in working on Council are invited to attend our meetings every Monday at lunch in Room 213.
