TISS Volleyball Teams
Jr. Girls’ Volleyball 2009/2010
The Jr. Girls’ volleyball team was lucky enough to have six returning players this year. We added a trio of Sarahs and three grade 9 rookies to round out the 12 person roster. Having all that experience has certainly paid off as the Jr. Pirates are 30 – 0 so far in regular season play. We are hoping to head to the EOSSAA championships undefeated! Every player on the team contributes in special way…
Emily Peters – what can we say…she does it all – team captain, powerhouse, fast feet, digger…when Emily is on the court, good things happen!
Alana Lawn – setter extraordinaire, assistant captain, the most beautiful, soft hands pushing those sets out to power; works in a delightful back set now and then; defensively a vacuum in the “hole”!
Marla Corney – a huge middle presence; blocker extraordinaire - she watches and waits for the exact moment and then lays a huge block on her opponent; patient net play; perfect passing from the back row.
Laura Henderson – hardest hitter on the team - she has a wacky sidearm swing, but hey, it works for her so we haven’t tried to fix it! Awesome overhand serve.
Mel Barr – another huge middle factor; when Mel is hitting hard there is no stopping her; the most consistent passer on the team! A blistering serve – low and hard!
MacKenzie Carr – setting phenomenon, she’s small but mighty and speedy – when not on setting duty she has been known to snag a block and a dynamite off side hit.
Sarah Utting – setter Sarah, the first Sarah addition to the team has the fastest feet in Eastern Ontario – she can turn a 180o in the blink of an eye; she also has soft, powerful hands that push beautiful high sets to power.
Sarah VanAsseldonk – the second Sarah addition to the team, Sarah V is a very powerful hitter and is running a close second for pass consistency.
Sarah Perry – rounding out the Sarah trio is Sarah P – a highly intelligent player who always practices feedback to improve her play; when she backs up for her approach she can lay down a good, hard hit!
Erica Bulanda – grade 9 rookie; the only lefty on the team, playing middle and playing well at the net; hitting is coming along nicely.
