Terry Fox Day at TISS
TISS students and staff were joined by several UCDSB Board and Admin for the Terry Fox Day on Monday, September 26. The event began with the entire student body and staff joining on the main field to form a heart symbolizing how much our school community cares about families dealing with cancer, helping others stay positive and honouring the memories of those loved ones lost to the disease. As well, it gave everybody a chance to reflect on Terry Fox's life, the Marathon of Hope and the work since to rasie money to battle cancer.
Students and staff walked three (and in some cases more) laps of our track before some inspiring and moving speeches were delivered by our trustee, Jeff McMillan, director, David K. Thomas and teacher Sam Crosby.
The event also served as the kickoff for the UCDSB Terry Fox Staff Challenge. TISS staff, and Board admin ran/jogged the first lap before leaving the school to start the first legs of two loops circling east and west around the board. The relay continues through Friday, concluding in Kemptville. This Challenge was started by our late superintendent, Ted Kennedy who inspired many students and staff to be physically active not just for events like these but throughout the year.
Many thanks to Mrs. D. Wykes and her students for organising the day's events.
