NSAIDD Day - October 18
TISS students hosted activities to educate the school community re impaired and distracted driving.
The OSAID Club from Thousand Island Secondary School held various activities on October 18 to highlight NSAIDD (National Students Against Impaired and Distracted Driving) Day. This day was, of course, established not only to make communities aware of the dangers and implications of impaired driving, but also as a way to pay our respects to the victims of various accidents.
As done in previous years, members of the TISS OSAID club will be taking part in a mock crash scene set up in the back parking lot of TISS, with a wrecked car generously provided by Covill Auto Wreckers. As well, students carried signs as a mini demonstration during the lunch hour.
Moreover, as a way of symbolizing the numerous accidents that occur in Canada each year due to impaired driving, OSAID repeated its annual White-Out campaign. Names of students from the club were announced in a series of fictional accident write-ups. These scenarios included the death or injuries of those involved. The students anounced painted their faces white and refrained from speaking for the rest of the day.
