Co-operative Education
Cooperative Education is a 2-credit program that provides students in Grade 11-12 with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their chosen professions. Students will complete 30 hours of in-class instruction and 190 hours of on-the-job work experience under the supervision of workplace professionals and their Teacher. These credits may count as compulsory credits toward the student’s Ontario Secondary School Diploma. This program is of particular interest to students with career goals. Students often gain valuable contacts through this experience. Often, students return for an additional year after graduation for the express purpose of a Cooperative Education experience prior to going to college or university. All students applying to the Cooperative Education Program must complete an application form and participate in a Student/Teacher interview before the commencement of the course. Students must have demonstrated the maturity and responsibility necessary to be successful in this type of program. Cooperative Education Teachers will attempt to closely match student interests with available placements. Students may suggest their placement, but should not contact employers directly.
Military Coop is a 4-credit program for students with an interest in a career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Students complete their program at the Brockville Armouries under the supervision of members of the Armed Forces and their Teacher. Students completing this course usually have an opportunity for summer employment with the military. The application process is lengthy. Students should apply early in the preceding semester. As the Cooperative Education course draws to a close, an Employer Appreciation Breakfast provides students with an opportunity to formally thank their supervisors for hosting them. A $20.00 course fee covers the costs of this event. For more information, please contact one of the Cooperative Education Teachers at the school.
