Snakes in Schools
On October 19th at 9:30, Scales Nature Park will be here to do a presentation on Snakes.
Afterwards, students will have a chance to explore these slippery creatures a little more closely.
It should be a fun day!
Scales in the School
On October 19, 2011 the team from Scales Nature Park came to Rideau Vista to show us some friendly, little reptiles. There were snakes and turtles. The types of snakes were Corn snakes, Milk snakes, Black Rat snakes, Garter snakes and Water snakes. There were also some types of friendly turtles. There was a Snapping turtle and a Blanding’s turtle. We learned the names of the reptiles in the gym but that wasn’t the fun part. It came when we got to touch and hold all the different types of snakes in the library. Sadly, we weren’t allowed to hold or touch the turtles.
Scales in the School was a great experience for some students and may have helped others get over their fear of snakes or even turtles.

Snakes
Today is Wednesday, October 19, 2011: some snakes came to visit us. We saw four different kinds of Ontario snakes. First we saw a Garter Snake. Then we saw a Milk Snake. Then we saw a Water Snake. We also saw Corn Snakes. They are from the U.S.A. I had a snake around my neck. I held a Garter Snake. I liked it. I also held a Corn Snake.
Turtles
We saw two different kinds of Ontario turtles. First we saw a Blandings Turtle. Then we saw a Snapping turtle.
