Public Skating
On Wed. Jan 25, the school will be public skating at the Westport Arena. Everyone needs a CSA Approved Helmet (see requirements below) so start thinking ahead.
Volunteers will also be needed to help tie skates and assist the little ones on the ice.
Mandatory CSA Approved Helmets
This is a reminder of the procedure for the Upper Canada District School Board regarding mandatory CSA approved hockey helmets for all on-ice activities. Effective September 2008, CSA approved hockey helmets were made mandatory for all students, staff and
volunteers when participating in a Board (school) approved on-ice activity. Examples of some "on-ice
activities" include ice skating, ringette, broomball and curling (grades 4-9 for curling). Only CSA approved hockey helmets will be acceptable due to their multiple impact construction and special design for falls/collisions on ice. Bike helmets are not acceptable due to their collapsible foam construction and design.
Helmets are also mandatory for Board skiing and snowboarding excursions. In addition, the Ontario Snow Resorts Association (OSRA) have now made the use of appropriate snow sport helmets MANDATORY for all students, teachers and volunteers participating in a
School ski/snowboard excursion. This change was effective the 2009-2010 ski season.
Please note that anytime a student is required to wear a helmet, staff/volunteers are required to wear helmets as well.
