Arrival
Buses arrive starting at 9:05 am and supervision for students begins at this time. Therefore students should not arrive before 9:05 am. Students enter the school and begin classes at 9:10. Students who arrive after that time should be brought to the office, where official attendance is kept throughout the day.
Recess
Students will go outside after the bell has rung and the yard duty teacher has gone onto the yard. Once outside, students are to stay outside, where there is supervision, unless the yard duty teacher gives them permission to enter the school. Students who need to use the washroom will be allowed to do so, one at a time.
Students will also be allowed into the school for safety reasons such as injury or needed clothing.
Lunch Hour
Students eat lunches between 12:00 and 12:20. They are expected to remain seated at their desks and eat in a polite manner. Litterless lunches are encouraged. Following the bell at 12:20, students must wait until the supervising teacher dismisses them and ensure that the classroom is tidy before going outside.
Off Ground Privileges
We prefer that students in grades K - 6 remain on the school grounds unless the appropriate adult has signed them out.
For Students Being Picked Up
For safety reasons, students who are being picked up by their parents are to be picked up and signed out at the office. Mrs. Adrain will be glad to get the children from the classrooms for you. The sign-out procedure protects younger children and, in case of emergency, will enable us to know quickly which children are still in the school and, after dismissal, which children are on the bus.
Bus Dismissal
Students are to prepare for dismissal after the teacher instructs them to do so. Once the class is ready, the teacher will lead them, in lines, to the buses. Students should not return to the school to retrieve forgotten items once they have boarded the bus.
Bicycles
Students traveling to school via bicycle are to arrive no earlier than 9:05a.m.. For the safety of the student biking, he/she will not be dismissed until all the buses have departed. To ensure that parents are aware that their child is arriving and departing from school by bicycle, a note should be sent to the school granting a child permission to ride a bike. Helmets are required by law.
Rules/Routines for Riding the School Bus
Students are expected to be polite and cooperative on the bus. An orderly bus helps to create a safe riding environment. The school bus is considered to be an “extension of the classroom”, and students are expected to follow the driver’s instructions promptly, and to follow the bus rules set out in the transportation booklet sent out each September. Please call the principal if there are concerns about behaviour during transportation.
Change in Bus Routine
Students can only travel on one assigned bus. If there is an emergency that requires a bus change, please contact the principal. We do not accommodate requests for bus changes for daycare, birthday parties, to do homework or visit with friends, etc. Parents are asked to make alternative arrangements.
