Principal's Message

The Terry Fox Run took place this year on Wednesday September 28th. It was a very special and touching display of character shown by many of our staff and students. This past spring Superintendent Ted Kennedy passed away while running the Ottawa marathon. The Terry Fox Run was always very important to Ted as he organized and spearheaded the campaign to have staff symbolically carry a UCDSB paddle across the district while raising funds for the cancer research. Over the years, Ted helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation. As a result, we at Montague wanted to honour his efforts by challenging to community to raise more funds than we did last year. One staff member who felt very strongly about the cause was Ms Vibert. She challenged the students and staff to surpass Montague’s pervious school goal of 500 hundred dollars by stating that she would cut her hair and donate it to “Pantene Beautiful Lengths” if the school reached six hundred dollars.

In true Montague fashion, Mme Dover revealed during our assembly that the school had in fact raised $2054 dollars! For a school of 220 students, we were very proud of our students. Ms Vibert subsequently had Mme Dover take out her scissors and remove a foot of her hair to delight and cheers of Montague students. Well done, Montague. The staff and students would like to thank Mme Dover and Ms Vibert for their fantastic efforts in organizing and running this campaign.
