CPHS 5 period day-Multi-Subject Instructional Period.
CPHS runs a Multi-Subject Instructional Period, or MSIP, 5 period day format. MSIP is well known around the Board, and is in place in 9 schools in the Upper Canada District School Board, and in many other districts around the province. MSIP is based upon the semester system, but instead of 4 periods of 75 minutes each, it reduces each period by 15 minutes to create a 5th period that is used to support the learning in the other 4.
The 5 period day MSIP format was created at Athens District High School 18 years ago, and has since spread to Brockville Collegiate, South Grenville, North Grenville, Rideau, Seaway, Smiths Falls, Rockland and Gananoque. Staff and students visited this program in action at Brockville Collegiate, North Grenville District High School in Kemptville, and Rideau District High School in Elgin, in an effort to better understand how this program works for the benefit of our students.
Students have the opportunity to access computer labs, the library, Student Resource and Student Services during this time. They also are able to work on group projects, receive assistance from peers and teachers, and practice skills in literacy and numeracy.
