Note: The following information was sent out as a letter (with timetables included for grade 9-12 students) to all registered students on Thursday, August 11, 2011.

Dear CCVS Parents, Guardians and Students,

On behalf of the teaching staff, support staff and administration, I would like to welcome you to the 2011-12 school year at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School.  We hope that you had a wonderful summer break, filled with many different opportunities to learn and grow.  The entire staff are excited about the changes at CCVS and are looking forward to continuing the tradition of academic and extra-curricular excellence as a grade 7-12 school.

We would like all of our parents and guardians to know that their child or children will receive an excellent education in a safe and caring learning environment where equity for all of our students is our priority. We encourage all of our students to get involved in the school and the many different extra-curricular activities that we have to offer them.

We will strive to keep you informed of all school activities and events throughout the year through our website (http://ccvs.ucdsb.on.ca), monthly newsletters, calendars, special notices, phone calls home, emails and the local press. Two-way communication between the home and school is imperative to the success of all students.  We encourage you to contact the school in regards to any inquiries or questions that you may have.

As we begin this school year, please remember that this is your school and we welcome your involvement.  Our first School Council Meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 21st in the Battista Library and Learning Commons area.  All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this meeting.

Orientation Sessions

 Grade 7 & 8 Students

On Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 CCVS will be hosting an orientation session for all grade 7 & 8 students. All parents, guardians and family members are welcome to attend the orientation. There will be a presentation in the cafeteria starting at 9:30 am. Following the presentation, students (parents/guardians as well if they wish) will go with their homeroom teacher to visit their classroom, collect their schedules, learn their locker number and lock combination and find out about a few other items as well. From 11:15 am to noon, lunch will be provided to the students in the cafeteria area.

 Grade 9-12 Students

On Thursday, September 1st, 2011 all Grade 9-12 students that will be new to CCVS, along with their parents, guardians and family members are welcome to attend an orientation session from noon until 2 p.m.  There will be a brief presentation in the cafeteria starting at 12:00 pm and then students will be able to get their timetables, find their lockers, visit their first semester classes and learn more about the upcoming school year.

 School Supplies

Students in Grades 7-12 will need similar supplies depending on the courses that they are taking throughout the school year.   A list of suggested school supplies for all students can be found below:

Scientific Calculator, pens, pencils, glue stick, pencil case, colouring pencils, at least 2 binders, dividers, lined paper, graph paper, 30 cm ruler and a geometry set.

 Locks and Lockers

All students will be assigned a lock and locker of their own in the school.  They must use this locker provided and are NOT permitted to share.  All lockers will have a lock already attached to the assigned locker.  Grade 7 & 8 students will not be charged for their school lock.  Students in grades 9-12 are required to pay a $5 fee for their school lock and they can take their lock with them at the end of the school year or they can receive their $5 back if the lock is returned in good working order.

 Tobacco and Smoking

In the best interests of the health and wellness of our Raiders, students in grades 7-9 will not be allowed to be in the possession of tobacco products, lighter or matches.  Students in grades 7-9 are not permitted to smoke in any of the designated areas and if students are caught with tobacco products the products will be confiscated and the students will receive consequences.  Grade 10-12 students who wish to smoke must do so in the designated areas on the sidewalks on Fifth Street and Fourth Street.  Students will NOT be permitted to smoke during their break times.   The only time they are allowed to smoke in the designated areas will be before school, lunch time, after school or during a spare period.
