CCVS Student’s Play Short Listed for Prestigious Wayne Fairhead New Play Award.

Congratulations to Rebecca Runions whose play The Promise has been shortlisted for the Wayne Fairhead New Play Award in the Sears Ontario Drama Festival. Rebecca is now  part of  a twenty one year long tradition.

This season there were 23 entries in the new play category. The readers (Andrew Lamb – Director/Artist Educator; Janet Kish – Drama Educator/Playwright/Director; and Frank Luke – Retired Drama Educator/Playwright/Director)) were very impressed by the quality of the writing this season.

Plays shortlisted this year are Hiding Eleven by Chen Duyang, George Vanier S.S.; The Promise by Rebecca Runions, Cornwall C.C.V.S.; NKKAMI by Coleen Guyo et al, Notre Dame H.S.; Norm by Bilal Baig, Meadowvale S.S.; Unimoral by Jennifer MacLeod & Alexandra Picken, South Carleton H.S.

This year the WFNP Award will be announced at the Awards Ceremony as part of this year’s Ontario Showcase on May 14 at Hart House Theatre, the University of Toronto. It will be given a professional workshop following the announcement either at the winner’s school or a space to be determined following the presentation of the award.

We look forward to seeing Rebecca’s work in the future at the theatre, in film, on television and/or in print!
