EQAO Provincial Testing Results

Individual results for students who participated in the province-wide Grade 3 & 6  testing last spring have already been sent home.  The provincial goal is to have 75% of students performing at level 3 & 4, with a school board goal

of a 90% graduation rate.   Overall, in the past 5 years, Beckwith P.S. scores have improved in Gr. 3 & 6.  Also, in all subject areas our results were above the board averages.

Yearly, we  work as a team and  analyze the results and curriculum to determine ways to make improvements.   The ultimate goal is for students to have the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the future.

Grade 3  Beckwith reading and writing results improved in 2010-2011 over the previous year.  Math results are still very good at 74%, down a little from last year.

Grade 6 We continued to make great improvements in writing (our school goal) and the 82% result was above the board & provincial average.  We were also above the math and reading  board and provincial averages!

What’s Next?  The school board places importance on these scores and uses them to monitor student achievement in order to provide them with the education they require.  Staff continue to work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to determine the strengths and weaknesses of their program.  We want to maintain our strengths and determine our next steps to improvement.

    How Do We Do This?

· Examine the EQAO test results to determine areas of strength and weakness, and patterns.  Set goals for improvement & measure progress

· Plan instructional strategies to address the

areas of weakness and build on areas of strength

· Study student work and compare to provincial exemplars.  Teach to the areas of weakness.

· Teach students what is expected at level 3 & 4 so they know what is expected.  Have high expectations .

Gender Differences

There continues to be some differences  between the genders, especially by the time they get to Gr. 6.

**Gr. 3  Boys did better in reading this year, which we are happy to see!  The boys did improve their writing skills overall, but are still lagging behind the girls by 33%.

** Gr. 6  Boys were behind the girls in reading (14%), but the gap is less this year than last; writing (25% difference) and math (8% difference).  The gap in math has also narrowed from 23% to 8% over the past 5 years in math. We will continue to focus on reducing these differences.
