Principals Message
Welcome to the Beckwith Public School Website!
Beckwith Public School is a community-oriented centre dedicated to developing in students the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to become confident, responsible citizens.
The school is located on a large acreage in Beckwith Township, which adjoins Carleton Place. Currently, our school population is 420 students, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight. Almost all of our students are bussed, or driven privately to school.
As teachers, educational assistants, support staff and administrators, we strive to work as a team, along with our families, so that every child will learn. To this end, we place value on delivering quality literacy and numeracy programs that integrate the curriculum. We support our board-wide "Character Always" initiative through modeling and fostering respect, caring, empathy, fairness, honesty, resilience, perseverance and responsibility thoughout our daily operations.
Students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight receive instruction in French.
This year students will receive a minimum of 200 minutes of Core French from Grades 1-8. This is double the French we have had in the past. Some of this will be integrated into the phys. ed. program since our phys. ed. instructor is also bilingual. This is a good way to actually use the language in an authentic environment. Extended Core French (a half-day, extended French program) is offered to students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2 and 3 and those students who want to take it in in Grade Five. We are excited about offering these new programs this year.
Special Education programs are operated within the school with an emphasis on student inclusion in the regular classroom.
Beckwith Public School has a spacious resource centre, featuring an exceptional library and an top notch computer lab, equipped with new computers. Quality Daily Physical Education and Healthy Living are important components of our curriculum. Home to the "Beckwith Bulldogs", our students participate in a variety of extracurricular and intramural sports and clubs.
Beckwith Public School is the focal point for community activities throughout the year. Our School Council is actively involved in supporting our School Success objectives, and meets on a monthly basis.
We look forward to maintaining and enhancing our communication with our school community as our website evolves. Watch for current updates!
