The Life Skills Program
The Almonte and District High School Life Skills Program provides students with individual programs focusing on the acquisition of functional independent living skills through a variety of learning opportunities. The students develop their skills in the areas of language and communication, numeracy, cooking, computers, personal health and fitness, safety, and social interaction and character education. Through our Vocational Training Program, students learn valuable real-world work skills both in our school and in the community. In school, students learn and practice, collect the attendance, prepare food for special events, collate documents, and assist with custodial work. In the community, the students work at The Hub, R. Tait McKenzie Public School, Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, Holy Name of Mary Church, and Tim Horton's. We are looking forward to adding new placements to this list in order to provide our students with an even wider range of opportunities.
