ADHS School Profile

ADHS is located in the community of Almonte that has a population of approximately 4,500. Its catchment includes most of the newly formed Town of Mississippi Mills with a population of approximately 9,000. Mississippi Mills is largely a bedroom community with a noticeably shrinking percentage of residents involved in the traditional economic sectors of agriculture and local business. There is a mixed housing base allowing for many new young families to move to the area. It is anticipated that this will increase the size of the high school population over the next few years.

There is a strong sense of community in Almonte. There are many opportunities for involvement in local arts, sports and social activities, such as:

. Arts Council

. Mill of Kintail Conservation Area and Tait MacKenzie Museum

. Annual North Lanark Highland Games

. Naismith Foundation, three on three basketball tournament

. Resident artist community

. Rural community programs such as: 4H club . Scouts, Guides, Sea Cadets and Navy League

There is also strong support for academic achievement from the community with over 40 awards and bursaries available to ADHS graduates from local businesses, arts, sports and social associations.
