Athens District High School is small but mighty. We fielded over 20 teams last year, covering vitually every sport with the exceptions of rugby and football.
Our teams perform very well on the local and broader geographical stage. Our fishing team performed in the top 5% of schools in Ontario, we sent several wrestlers to EOSSAA in 2010, our recent graduate Chris Perkins dominated in local and well as national archery championships, and is now the World Archer Chamipion, and our senior boys basketball team went to LGSSAA finals in 2010 to name just a few of our many many recent achievements.
We offer not only teams, but also some athletic clubs such as badminton, which runs weekly for several months prior to the badminton season, which begins in March. We hold intramurals for sports such as floor hockey, volleyball or indoor soccer. We also have open gym sessions at lunch at scheduled intervals to allow all students a chance to burn off some of that athletic energy.
Because our school is small, you chances of being on a team are mathematically improved, but don't be fooled by the myth that if you try out you'll make the team... Athens is a very athletic building, and a try outs are often crowded places of hopeful athletes.
Our coaching staff is a combination of staff coaches, staff supervisors, and a outside voluteer talent brought in to coach teams such as our mens hockey team, which was officially reinstated in 2009.
We are the warriors!
