Principal’s Address

This has been a remarkable year to date, filled with character, leadership and achievement.  As a group, and with the leadership of our dedicated coaches, we have excelled on and off the court.  We hosted EOSSA Wrestling and for the first time in six years held a successful return of boy’s hockey.  As the Principal, I am truly amazed and humbled at the synergy and tradition that makes up Athens District High School, the land of the “Warriors”.  With all the activities and events (Frosh Friday, Country Fair, Craft Show, and dances) we are a happening school.  Parliament is lively with the Opposition taking great delight in questioning various Ministers of the Party in Power.  On October 2nd we held an extremely successful reunion in celebrating One Hundred and Thirty years of ADHS tradition with more than 150 former students in our gymnasium.  Our school conducted a successful food drive and several of our students were successful Skills Canada competitors.  We have seen the leaders of today and tomorrow in action!

We are the school of choice for all students in the Athens area.  We are the school of endless possibilities where as a staff our first priority is to our students and parents.  As a world class educational institution we are dedicated to providing all students with a quality, diverse educational opportunity that honours their learning needs and enables them to become successful and contributing members of society.  As a staff we have embedded character education into the very fabric of ADHS and as students you have responded in a positive manner.  It has been a pleasure to see each of you grow emotionally and intellectually into young adults.

As the year comes to an end, please take a moment to stop, look around and become immersed in your surroundings.  Everything you will do, hear or say should take on new meaning as you wind down your stay at school.  Whatever path you have selected when leaving, take pride in knowing that we are proud of you at Athens District High School.  It has been an honour and privilege working with you – may the wind always fill your sails.  Goodbye and good fortunes.

Sincerely,

Gord Phillips
