Program Definition
Community Use of Schools is an initiative that supports access to school space outside of school hours for not-for-profit community groups.

Criteria for Qualifying for Reduced Rates:
It is the current practice of the Upper Canada District School Board to provide affordable access to not-for-profit groups subject to availability. This affordable access has been possible due to the Community Use of Schools Grant provided annually by the Ministry of Education.
For users who do not qualify under the Community Use of Schools program, the following rate schedule shall apply:
Rate Schedule:
A school let is defined as the use of a school facility and grounds for a minimum four (4) hour period. Usage in excess of a four-hour period shall be prorated on an hourly basis.

Notes:
A rental of a school facility or grounds is deemed to be for a four (4) hour period.
Rates will not be pro-rated.
Custodial costs are additional when required.
Insurance Coverage
The board uses a portion of the Ministry Grant to purchase insurance through the OSBIE User Group Program to cover community use of Upper Canada District School Board facilities including sport, recreation and leisure activities.
The following activities DO NOT qualify for our coverage:
Contact Hockey, Alpine Skiing, BMX Biking, Snowboarding/Skateboard Parks, Boxing, Kick-boxing, Rugby, Contact Football, Dog Training, Skateboarding/Skateboard parks, Tackle Football, Horse-related activities, Fireworks, Cycling, Lacrosse, Climbing Walls, Contact Martial Arts. Organizations may still be able to use board facilities if they have their own insurance coverage.
Groups who have their own insurance must carry a minimum of $2million in liability coverage and Upper Canada District School Board must be added as an additional insured. Proof of coverage will be requested at the time of booking.
Schools with Available Space
Interested groups should contact the school principal to determine if the school facility is available. No community use shall prejudice the regular or extracurricular program of the school, either during or outside of school hours.
