UCDSB “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) Program

Benefits of Joining

Revised: January 8, 2015

You may be wondering why you would want to join your personal smartphone or tablet to the UCDSB “Bring Your Own Device” program. This document provides a summary of all of the features and benefits you will receive when you set-up your device for the BYOD system.

Reason #1 – Faster Internet over Wireless (WiFi)

When you set-up your device for the BYOD program, your device will automatically get configured to connect to a new WiFi network that will provide you with a faster Internet connection with greater access to websites while you are at school!

Reason #2 – UCDSB Email on your Device

Keep in touch with your friends and teachers while on the go!  When you set up your device for the BYOD program, you will automatically get your My.UCDSB Email set-up on your device*, which means that you can keep in touch with your friends and teachers without having to visit a computer.

Reason #3 – Self-Service Device Management Tools

Smartphones and tablets are lost all the time, and when that happens, how do you know if someone is able to see your personal information? When you set-up your device for the BYOD program, you will automatically have access to a variety of tools that will let you lock your device, locate your device, or erase your UCDSB Email off your device in case it is lost.

*Not all types of devices are supported for all BYOD features. Virtually every model of iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch work perfectly, but other smartphone and tablet devices are hit and miss. If you wish to check to see if your device is supported, please check out this link: BYOD Device Support Guide. This link is updated regularly as new devices are supported.
