Chair's Messages

Our Board continues to reach new heights. Our enrolments are increasing. We recently opened two new schools, are planning construction of two more and have renovated many school buildings and outdoor facilities to improve the learning environment for staff and students.

As a Board we have clearly defined our strategic direction by completing a work plan that focuses on increasing our graduation rate, improving internal and external communications, enhancing staff and student wellness, and finding ways to encourage community engagement.

We are proud of the work of our staff who every day guide our young people to discover their dreams and meet their long-term goals. That success is evident as we see our students place highly in design, physics and athletic competitions, act as leaders in the Indigenous or LGBTQ+ communities, medal at provincial trades competitions, and earn scholarships to some of Canada’s best universities.

In this constantly changing world, I am confident we have the right people in place to help our students reach the next level. We are focused on improving our students’ success in math and literacy through our Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement. We are aligning our research-based instructional approaches with those of the province through our Renewed Math Strategy. We have improved the way we provide French education, are offering expanded reach-ahead opportunities, and are finding new and innovative ways with community partners to teach our students skills required to succeed in years to come.

We remain bold in our ambition and strong in our outlook as we keep moving forward. Our Board, our senior leaders and our school teams consistently put our young people at the center of everything we do. Empowering our young people to reach their full potential is our top priority. We are working to build stronger, safer, equitable and considerate school communities in which all students can learn. We are encouraging our staff to be innovative as they experiment in the classroom with engaging learning environments and different approaches to instruction such as flipped learning. We are creating more inclusive and accepting learning environments through initiatives such as our GSA Empowerment Day and our iLead program.

Through our new direction, we made great progress over the past year and I am convinced we will reach the long-term goals we have set for staff and student achievement.
