Assessment & Evaluation of Student Progress and Learning

The Ontario Ministry of Education has provided clarity regarding assessment, evaluation and final report cards for students for the 2019-2020 school year.

Please review the following information and should you have any questions about achievement progress, please contact your teacher or school principal.

  • All students will receive a year-end report cards.

  • Only students in Grade 12 will receive mid-term reports, as those are necessary for applications for post-secondary education.

  • For mid-term reports, teachers will use the learning that happened prior to closure of schools on March 13, 2020 when determining a student’s achievement in a course or subject.

  • Teachers are encouraged to include evidence of learning completed during the Learn at Home period when in the best interest of students, on all mid-term and year-end reports.

  • Students who are unable to participate in distance learning will not be penalized in terms of their mid-term and final marks.

Although the marks of students that do not participate in learn at home programming will not be negatively impacted on 2019-2020 reports, they will not benefit from continued learning will not be able to increase their final marks either. They will also not benefit from staying connected to their learning, which will help them in when we return to the regular classroom.

We encourage our students to engage in the continued learning being offered to the extent that it is possible for them to do so.
