UCDSB Learn at Home

The Ministry of Education provided direction to school boards and teaching staff on phase two of the provincial Learn At Home plan. As we move toward a teacher-led model of distance learning, this will look different depending on the school, grade, and where the teacher is situated in delivering the curriculum at the time.

Please be assured that the UCDSB is committed to keeping students engaged in learning and moving forward.

Here is an overview of the UCDSB Learn at Home Plan as of April 2020.

Elementary: What to Expect

Please continue to check your email or other communication apps that are used by your child’s teacher for more direction.

Secondary: What to Expect

  • Students should continue to check their UCDSB email for information from their teachers. All teachers have reached out to their students via email and/or phone.

  • Students that already have access to the learning management system Desire2Learn (known as D2L) for online learning, should continue with their assignments.

  • Before and after school continuing education courses have moved into an online format and teachers have reached out to students.

  • In-person community placements for co-operative education programs are suspended, however students can work with their teacher to modify their learning plans. Some students may have the opportunity to connect virtually with industry partners and explore career and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Dual credit/Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program courses are suspended, however if a student requires a credit in this course to graduate in the 2019-2020 school year, the school board will work with you to accomplish it.

  • Graduating students in a Specialist High Skills Major program unable to complete their SHSM requirements due to extenuating circumstances, including the impacts from COVID-19, will be given exemptions for incomplete certifications. If you were on track to receive a Red Seal this year, you will still be able to receive it.
