(Alexandria) – The Glengarry District High School (GDHS) senior boys’ soccer team is heading to OFSAA for the fifth time in seven years next month after winning the EOSSAA Senior Boys’ A Soccer Championship Tuesday before a home crowd.

The Gaels upset École Secondaire Catholique Régionale de Hawkesbury 1-0 in overtime. Left midfielder Michael Bissonnette headed the ball into the top corner of the net, following a cross by right back David MacMaster, sealing the victory five minutes into overtime.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Coach Glen Campbell of the win. “It was a great effort on the boys’ part and I’m so proud of the way our boys continued to work hard through very hot weather conditions.”

In the junior final, Char-Lan District High School upset Le Relais 2-0.

GDHS heads to Windsor for the OFSAA Senior Boys’ A Soccer Championship on June 2-4. GDHS teams have won a gold and two silver medals at OFSAA in the past seven years.
