TISS Pirates Reach Semis at EOSSAA
Senior Boys’ AA Basketball Championship

By Mark Calder

(Brockville) – While it was a good run, the basketball season came to a halt Tuesday for Thousand Island Secondary School at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) Senior Boys’ AA Basketball Championship.

After going undefeated in the regular season and winning the county title, the tournament hosts fell 65-37 to Frontenac Secondary School in the semifinals.

TISS coach Jason Crotty said the Pirates withered under the intense full-court pressure offered up by Frontenac, and their opponent’s effectiveness from outside the three-point line. Frontenac players drained 42 points from outside the arc.

“We had a very good year, ending up undefeated in our league,” said Crotty. “I was disappointed that we didn’t play better in our final game but even if we had played well we would have been hard-pressed to beat Frontenac the way they played.”

The Pirates managed to stay in the game in the early going, keeping the score to 22-9 thanks largely to the play of Colin Gartley, but after that Frontenac controlled the game.
