November 9th, 2017 (Brockville, ON) – Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) met on Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 to discuss a number of topics including:

Board Updates Renewal of the Partnerships, Sponsorships and/or Cooperative Ventures Policy:

As part of the Board’s annual policy review cycle, Trustees updated their Partnerships, Sponsorships and/or Cooperative Ventures Policy. The revisions provide new clarity for school principals should they receive proposals for partnership from government representatives or officials. It also emphasizes the role of the Superintendent of Schools in supporting schools that are considering any type of partnerships, sponsorships or cooperative ventures. Changes introduced under these revisions include: ensuring all sponsorship agreements are clearly defined in writing; authorizing Superintendents of Schools to approve school or school family collaborative ventures; requiring that collaborative ventures, sponsorships and donations initiated by municipal, provincial or federal governments or agencies be reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees; mandating that the Board of Trustees must approve, or authorize the Director of Education to approve, any collaborative venture, sponsorship, and/or donation exceeding $100,000 in value, or any collaborative venture or sponsorship exceeding five years in duration; and requiring that such agreements are consistent with the Education Act and regulations as amended.

2016-2017 Draft Audited Financial Statements: Trustees approved the 2016-2017 Audited Financial Statements presented Wednesday night by Comptroller of Finance Carole McKewen. The statements reflect an in-year surplus for compliance purposes of $1,581,150. The Board reported revenues for compliance purposes of $347,607,971 and in-year expenses for compliance purposes of $346,026,821. McKewen confirmed that the financial statements results were Ministry compliant while allowing the Board to focus on its key goals of student achievement and student well-being.
