Parts of the UCDSB Learn at Home strategy during the school closure period during the COVID-19 pandemic includes using technology and the internet. Teachers use technology to reach out to their students and families either for work assignments or checking in on their well-being.

Students should be checking their email regularly for updates and secondary students should be accessing Desire 2 Learn (D2L), Skype, Microsoft Teams or any other website their teachers have been using.

The UCDSB surveyed parents in early April to assess technology needs, which aided in forming a device distribution plan. The UCDSB was able to ensure that each student in Grades 9-12 and anyone with special education needs that needed a device to participate in distance learning had access to one. Approximately 3,000 devices have been made available to UCDSB students.

At this time, we do not have the means to provide internet to families at home. As we have a unique and vast school district, with varying levels of connectivity options, we have not yet been able to find a reliable solution. Please know, this is also something we continue to investigate.

If connectivity or access to devices continues to be a barrier for students in your household to take part in distance learning, please contact your school principal or teacher as we can provide printed materials for them to use at home.
