Reach Ahead Civics & Careers Course for Akwesasne Students

Reach Ahead Civics and Careers Course

In July 2019, a face-to-face reach ahead CHV2O (Civics) & GLC2O (Careers) course was offered at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS). The course designed in partnership with Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education, had an emphasis on Haudenosaunee culture history and First Nations government.

The course focused on Indigenous governance and policies through guest speakers from Akwesasne and experiential learning experiences in the community.

Through the learning experiences, students gained a better understanding of how their communities function and the importance of active citizenship. They also developed an understanding of  the relationship between the Government and First Nations communities.

As a culminating activity on their graduation day,  the students planned a social held at the Native North American Travelling College. The prepared corn soup, fry bread and strawberry drink for the social. We are so appreciative of our many community partners who supported this enriching opportunity for our students.
