May 3, 2018 (Perth, ON) - Glen Tay Public School hosted a 50th Anniversary Celebration Tuesday night, attracting more than 250 visitors.

Principal Krista Warren said the event allowed current families to celebrate the value of a Glen Tay education, while permitting alumni to reminisce about their childhood.

“It brought back warm memories,” said Warren. “They (alumni) appreciated the chance to walk the hallways again. It was almost like being home.”

Highlights of the event were:

  • An address by former principal David Crowley, who opened the school on May 1,1968 and helped coordinate the amalgamation of 15 local schoolhouses spread throughout the area into the new regional school.
  • Student performances of songs from the recent school production of The Lion King Junior.
  • A memorabilia display in the school library, and a chance for visitors to post pictures of their visit on the school’s SPAN wall.
  • A display of a primary student exercise in which students used a computer program to age their pictures, and wrote details of what they hope to have accomplished in their lives 50 years from now.
