Ready 2 Learn/Early Learning
Information On Our Ready 2 Learn and Full-Time Kindergarten Programs

Full-Time Learning With The UCDSB

Early Learning Program (ELP)

·         The Early Learning Program (ELP) as confirmed by the Ministry of Education will be offered during the regular school day.

·         ELP offers full-time learning during the core school day for 4 and 5 year olds at no cost to parents.

·         ELP classes will be staffed with a teacher and an early childhood educator

·         ELP classes will be staffed at a 13:1 (child to adult) ratio.

·         Teachers and early childhood educators will work as partners to plan and deliver a high-quality, play-based program.  Working side by side, these educators will create a welcoming environment where each child can learn, grow, and feel valued every day.

·         Parents will have the option to enrol their child in a fee-based extended day (before and after school) program delivered by early childhood educators (if there is sufficient demand to offer the program at the school).

·         Eleven schools have been selected to offer the ELP in the Upper Canada District School Board: Linklater PS, Nationview PS, Naismith Memorial PS, Maxville PS, Pleasant Corners PS, Maple Grove PS, Gladstone PS, South Edwardsburg PS, Duncan J. Schoular PS, Commonwealth PS, and East Front PS.

·         Children who live in the school boundaries for ELP sites will be given first priority.

Ready 2 Learn (R2L)

·         In order to provide more 4 and 5 year olds in our communities with the opportunity to participate in full-time learning, the Upper Canada District School Board has developed a Ready 2 Learn program.

·         The R2L program is a play-based program designed to compliment the traditional alternate day JK/SK program.  Children that enrol in the R2L program will attend JK/SK on alternate days and the R2L program on the other days at no cost to parents.

·         The JK/SK program will be delivered by a teacher.  The R2L program will be delivered by an early childhood education partner.

·         Parents will have the option to enrol their child in a fee-based before and after school program delivered by early childhood educators (if there is sufficient demand to offer the program at the school).

·         Ten schools have been selected to offer the R2L program in the Upper Canada District School Board for September 2010: The Stewart School, Laggan PS, Maynard PS, Williamstown PS, Arklan PS, Morrisburg PS, Vanier PS, Russell PS, South Branch PS, and Viscount Alexander PS.

·         Children who live in the school boundaries for R2L sites will be given first priority.
