(Iroquois) – Fun, brain-teasing questions were the order of the night October 29 as 80 people gathered at Seaway District High School to test their grey matter during the Seaway Trivia Challenge.
Eight teams of ten competed at the 4th trivia contest, which raised $1,800 for the Upper Canada District School Board Champions for Kids Foundation. The winning team, known as “Admin. 101” consisted of former and current Seaway administrators, friends and family.
“I’m so pleased that the organizers of the Trivia Challenge have decided to support the Champions for Kids Foundation,” said Seaway Principal Terry Gardiner. “The foundation has helped students in our high school and in our local elementary schools to enjoy sports and the arts and to access medical or dental care.
“It’s great to give something back to Champions so that kids who may not have a lot can continue to enjoy the same types of experiences as their friends at school.”
The Seaway Trivia Challenge has been an annual event at the high school since 2004 with the exception of the past two years. The challenge was revived by Seaway teachers and event organizers Heather Thompson, Jeffrey Crooke, and Mellissa Ringler. Crooke served as MC and quiz master during the contest.
The night before the Seaway Trivia Challenge a team of current and former Seaway teachers won the Palliative Care trivia contest in Brockville. This team contributed their $200 in winnings from the challenge. The rest of the proceeds were gained through the $200 team entry fees, said Gardiner.
