(Brockville) – For Brittany McEachern, a Grade 10 student at Brockville Collegiate Institute and accomplished gymnast, the moment she realized she won a gold medal at the Ontario Gymnastics Championships is a moment she will never forget.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I just looked at my parents and my coach in the audience. I was so happy.”
McEachern captured gold in floor exercise and bronze for uneven bars at her first-ever provincial competition held during the last weekend of April in Windsor, Ontario.
With a consistent grade average of 90 per cent or higher, McEachern said participating in gymnastics has actually helped her do better in school.
“It’s taught me initiative and time management skills,” she said. “I have to do my homework on time.”
McEachern said once the school year is over she plans on spending her summer learning the necessary gymnastics skills to qualify for a national competition.
“I love everything about competing in gymnastics,” she said. “It’s exhilarating!”
